Dr. Ishmael Yamson, Chairman of the National Economic Dialogue, has cautioned the government against imposing new taxes, emphasizing that Ghana’s economic recovery depends on fiscal discipline and efficient resource management.
Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues on March 9, 2025, he warned that overburdening taxpayers stifles economic growth. Dr. Yamson argued that Ghana’s issue is not low revenue collection but poor financial management and leakages.
He called for digitizing tax collection to curb evasion, ensuring wealthy individuals and large businesses pay their fair share. Additionally, he stressed that struggling businesses cannot be taxed into prosperity and urged the government to foster a thriving economy.
He concluded that without disciplined spending, no amount of taxation will resolve Ghana’s economic challenges.
