Suspension of SML services in upstream petroleum, minerals sectors still in force - GRA

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has clarified recent media reports. These reports suggested that Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) would expand its revenue assurance activities.

On Wednesday, the GRA issued a press statement. It was shared with the Ghana News Agency. The statement confirmed that SML’s services in upstream petroleum and mineral sectors are still suspended. This suspension will remain in effect until further review in April 2024.

Media reports claimed that SML announced an extension of its oversight. They suggested this extension included Ghana’s upstream petroleum and solid minerals sectors.

At a recent event celebrating SML's fifth anniversary, the company mentioned its progress in the downstream sector. They stated that GRA had sought their services for the upstream sector.

However, GRA emphasized it has not changed its earlier directive. There is no instruction for SML to start or resume operations under the 2023 Consolidated Revenue Assurance Services Contract for these sectors.

The Authority reassured stakeholders in the petroleum and mineral industries. It also assured the public of its commitment to protecting national revenue with integrity and transparency.
