The Bank of Ghana has expressed gratitude to Dr. Ernest Addison for his dedicated service as Governor during his two-term tenure.
Dr. Addison, who was first appointed in April 2017 and reappointed in March 2021, will proceed on terminal leave effective February 3, 2025, ahead of his official retirement on March 28, 2025. His decision, approved by President John Mahama, ensures a smooth transition for the central bank’s leadership.
In his place, President Mahama has nominated Dr. Johnson Asiamah as the next Governor of the Bank of Ghana, pending approval by the Council of State.
Dr. Asiamah, a former Second Deputy Governor of the central bank, brings over 23 years of experience in banking, monetary policy, and financial stability regulation.
His nomination follows the recent withdrawal of all charges against him related to the collapse of UniBank and UT Bank.
