The impact of internships on students: My UBA Ghana experience

One highlight of my internship was the UBA Annual General Meeting. It took place at the Mövenpick Hotel. I helped with planning logistics and saw teamwork in action. This experience showed me how corporate events come together.

During this time, I improved my communication and organizational skills. I also learned what it means to work in a fast-paced environment. This internship shaped my professional mindset beyond just building my résumé.

Internships offer students a chance to apply classroom theories practically. They help cultivate essential workplace skills and expose students to career paths. Internships bridge academic learning and real-world application effectively.

Employers now seek candidates with both credentials and experience. Internships help students meet modern workplace expectations. One major benefit is developing practical, real-world skills.

Academic programs provide theoretical knowledge, but internships offer real experiences. Students must adapt their knowledge to solve problems under constraints. Tasks like drafting reports or handling logistics build essential skills for any career.

Through these experiences, students learn what jobs entail and what skills they need. They can discover if a field aligns with their interests and values. An internship may confirm a passion or lead to new directions—both outcomes are valuable.

For many students, internships transform their independence and maturity. They face responsibilities, deadlines, and professional interactions outside academia. These challenges push them out of their comfort zones.

Reflecting on my internship at UBA Ghana, it was more than just learning. It marked a turning point in my life. I realized classroom lessons are only part of thriving in the real world.

I found joy in copywriting and discovered marketing's dynamic nature. Being proactive became crucial for success as well. Most importantly, I learned that growth happens when you embrace new environments.

At UBA, values like Enterprise, Excellence, and Execution define the culture. These principles shape how we work together every day. When done right, internships prepare you for the future while shaping your self-perception.

For me, this experience was just the beginning of something bigger.
