Mineral and Natural Resources Economist, Dr. Theo Acheampong, has highlighted the gradual nature of Ghana’s economic recovery, cautioning that progress will not be immediate due to persistent structural challenges.

Speaking on Joy News' AM Show on Tuesday, January 14, Dr. Acheampong cited issues in the energy sector, inefficiencies at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and declining cocoa production as key hurdles that require time to address.

“At the minimum, you need probably about a year and a half before you begin to see those lagged effects,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of the government signaling stability to citizens and investors.

Dr. Acheampong predicted that inflation would not decline to 10% in the short term, suggesting it could take at least 18 months to see significant improvement.

“Ultimately, this economy has to deliver for Ghanaians in terms of jobs,” he concluded, stressing the need for job creation as a cornerstone of economic recovery efforts.
