Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has reassured the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) that the government is committed to preventing shipping lines from relocating from Ghana’s ports.
During his first official visit to GSA in Accra, he addressed concerns about Act 1122 of 2024, which some shipping companies argue creates bureaucratic challenges and raises costs by making GSA both regulator and asset manager.
Citing President Mahama’s pledge to reduce port costs through law revisions, he pledged to support the revised Act and work to streamline operations by reviewing taxes, duties, and levies.
GSA CEO Professor Ransford Gyampo welcomed the Minister’s visit, acknowledging historical and current challenges, including outstanding fees, and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment, under the “Reset Ghana Agenda,” to enhance global competitiveness and retain shipping lines in the country.
