Trump imposes 10% import tax on Ghana amid global tariff surge

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced new tariffs that will increase global trade tensions. The tariffs include a 34% tax on imports from China and a 20% tax on goods from the European Union.

Ghana will also be affected. It will now face a 10% import tax on goods entering the U.S.

Speaking from the Rose Garden, Trump declared a national economic emergency. He stated that these tariffs are necessary to boost domestic manufacturing. He accused foreign nations of exploiting the U.S. economy for decades.

“Our country has been looted, pillaged, raped, and plundered,” Trump said. He added that taxpayers have been ripped off for over 50 years.

The tariffs were introduced under the 1977 International Emergency Powers Act without Congressional approval. They target countries with significant trade surpluses with the U.S. Other nations will also face similar import taxes, straining global supply chains.

As a result, Ghanaian businesses exporting to the U.S. will face higher costs. This could affect the trade relationship between Ghana and the U.S. This move reflects a broader shift in U.S. trade policy with far-reaching consequences for international commerce.
