Tullow Ghana restarts drilling in Jubilee Field, signals renewed investment in energy sector

Tullow Ghana and its partners have announced the restart of drilling in the Jubilee Field. This marks a renewed phase of investment in Ghana’s energy future.

The new two-year drilling program starts this May. It aims to boost oil production and improve efficiency at this key West African oil field.

This campaign follows Tullow’s successful four-year drilling program, completed in December 2024. That project delivered 18 new wells ahead of schedule and under budget. It was praised for its efficiency, safety performance, and cost control.

The new drilling phase will begin in stages starting May 2025. Additional activities are planned for November and will continue into 2026. Tullow aims to build on past successes and enhance its drilling management standards.

Tullow Ghana Managing Director Jean-Médard Madama called this development a significant milestone. He said, “This is an exciting moment for us.” He added that the restart shows confidence in Ghana’s resource base.

Even as the Jubilee Field matures, it remains vital for oil production and revenue. The new campaign is expected to unlock more value for stakeholders and ensure sustained output.

To prepare for the new operations, Tullow recently completed a 16-day maintenance activity at the Jubilee Field. This upgrade aimed to enhance systems and reduce risks.
