U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, has downplayed concerns over Washington's newly imposed 10% tariff on Ghanaian exports, describing bilateral ties as “very strong” and intact.

Her remarks came after a private meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in Accra, where the two discussed the economic impact of the tariff and explored ways to maintain strong trade cooperation.

While Ghanaian exporters express worry about competitiveness in the U.S. market, Palmer assured journalists that both countries are committed to navigating the issue constructively.

She hinted at possible advantages Ghana could gain in the long term, despite the tariff.

The policy, introduced by former U.S. President Donald Trump, has stirred debate, but the ambassador’s tone aimed to ease diplomatic tensions and reinforce mutual trust.
