UNDP unveils first e-mobility solution to drive green transition

The Market Opportunity Study Report on EV Charging Stations was funded by Germany through the Climate Promise. It provides insights into Ghana’s electric mobility landscape. The report highlights challenges, opportunities, and recommendations for building a strong EV charging infrastructure.

The goal is to address gaps and accelerate Ghana’s green transition. This will support the country’s move toward sustainable transport solutions.

At the launch, UNDP Ghana’s Resident Representative, Niloy Banerjee, spoke about ‘Sustainable Mobility: Powering Ghana's Green Future.’ He emphasized the organization’s commitment to climate action and sustainable energy in Ghana.

Banerjee stated there is an urgent need to speed up Ghana’s transition to greener pathways. He mentioned that green mobility solutions can benefit many people. Sustainable mobility will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve urban air quality.

Abdul-razak Saeed, Lead for Environment and Climate at UNDP Ghana, stressed the importance of the report. He said building a strong EV charging infrastructure is essential as Ghana shifts toward sustainable mobility. The report outlines investment opportunities and policy actions needed for this transition.

During the launch, Mrs. Eunice Biritwum, Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, discussed policy roles in electric mobility. She noted that this joint effort shows their commitment to climate action and sustainable energy solutions.

The transition to electric vehicles supports UNDP's global target to cut vehicle-related emissions by 50% by 2030. Through this project, UNDP Ghana expects an annual reduction of 5.23 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. They also anticipate cost savings exceeding US$2,138 per year.

By promoting electric mobility, UNDP Ghana aims to reduce its carbon footprint. They hope to inspire other organizations to adopt cleaner transport solutions.

As Ghana embraces electric vehicles, this initiative serves as a model for sustainable transport in the country. It highlights clean transportation's role in achieving a more sustainable future for all Ghanaians.
