Ghana’s 2024 imports reveal a diverse mix of commodities. Diesel for the Tema Oil Refinery led the list at GH₵28.9 billion (11.6%), followed by light oils and motor spirits at GH₵24.1 billion (9.6%).
The GSS report noted that used vehicles (1,500cc–3,000cc) ranked fifth at GH₵4.2 billion (1.7%), while an unexpected entry of animal guts, bladders, and stomachs (excluding fish) accounted for GH₵2.69 billion (1.1%). Other key imports included bulldozers, cement clinker, and herbicides.
Despite these high import bills, Ghana posted a trade surplus of GH₵44.7 billion, driven by robust exports in gold, petroleum, and cocoa. This mix underscores the country’s varied trade demands as it heads into 2025.
