Useless Column with Mawuli ZOBGENU: ‘Men gossip more’

It’s the weekend again. Last week, Jesus was betrayed and crucified. He resurrected to save our lives. Amen! Don’t worry about people who pretend to like or hate you.

Where are those who shouted “we want Barnabas”? Today, we all call on Jesus for joy and salvation!

Last month was Ghana Month. The one that excited me most was Ghana Month 2023. JOY did a great job discussing Ghanaian culture and cuisine.

One discussion focused on a Ghanaian dish that can be promoted internationally. I was surprised when a speaker chose apapransa based on their research. They claimed it is eaten everywhere, but I have my doubts. Kofi Winston and his team suggested doing more research.

I don’t remember the last time I ate apapransa. It fills you up quickly, so you may not crave it again soon. You eat a little and feel ‘fed up’.

Later that afternoon, Lexis discussed another favorite of mine: konkonte! My Mum said it helps with stomach ulcers, though I think that was just poverty talk (not scientifically proven).

I was surprised fufu didn’t rank higher than konkonte, even though I eat fufu often. Foreigners love fufu too; they sometimes use forks and knives!

A caller mentioned ‘fetri totto’. Lexis seemed confused by the name. But it’s popular across Ghana!

Fetri detsi or okro soup is well-known here too. What you pair it with matters for popularity. If it's akple with fetri detsi, we know where to go! But ‘fetri totto’? Don’t mention this around my neighbor Ataa Nikoi!

The difference is simple: fetri detsi uses chopped okro while fetri totto uses grated okro! It can be prepared in various ways.

Sometimes fresh okro is cooked and ground into soup; other times dried okro is powdered for soup. Growing up with my Kasena neighbors in Kisseman, they called it ‘kuka’. It pairs well with tuo zaafi or grain dishes!

In my opinion, fufu should be marketed internationally because it's already known globally. Fufu from Ghana is fantastic!

I don’t know any part of the country where fufu isn’t eaten! My last experience in Conakry involved fufu made from ripe plantains with palm nut soup.

Just so you know, 'totto' doesn’t mean 'in details' in Greek! If you're thinking otherwise, remember Jesus just resurrected last week.

Food preferences are subjective; what I enjoy might not appeal to others.

Some may not know about my friend who voted against himself while standing for MPT in Vorta Region! He realized his mistake only after voting.

In my area? Voting can lead to regrets once it's too late! Vorta wants MPT NP? Why fear the Bible but not Nogokpo or Antoa?

Speaking of food... I once used my pet goat for light soup—it wasn’t a bad idea at all!

On the eve of my wedding, I invited 15 friends but ended up with over 150 guests! One goat couldn’t feed them all!

Alex advised me to add more pepper to the soup—at least half a sack of chili pepper—and provide plenty of water.

Fortunately, the taps were flowing that evening—a miracle like Jesus feeding 5,000 people!

Believe it or not, everyone got served satisfactorily that night! Each person received one piece of goat meat in their bowl of special 4G soup.

Most couldn’t finish their meat after tasting the spicy soup; many asked for water afterward!

My small goat had plans as guests brought their girlfriends along to feast!

This goat was stubborn—I often went crazy seeing it cough after eating beans! Its gas emissions were quite noticeable—like humans do!

Did you know men gossip more than women? We belong to a gossip group where we discuss beautiful women endlessly!

Have a nice weekend and remember: close your windows if they hurt your eyes—even if the view is beautiful! This advice will help you save money!
