The Institute of Energy Security (IES) has welcomed the rescheduled maintenance by the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCO), noting it provides an opportunity to boost liquid fuel reserves for thermal plants.

The maintenance, which will take place from February 3 to March 2, 2025, includes offshore pipeline cleaning and inspection (pigging).

IES Executive Director Nana Amoasi VII emphasized that the deferment allows the government to stockpile sufficient liquid fuel to mitigate disruptions in gas flow to power plants during the maintenance period.

He assured that plants like Asogli and the Tema power plant would maintain generation capacity, ensuring a consistent power supply and avoiding public criticism. The measures aim to ensure reliable energy production during maintenance.
