The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has postponed the start date for its offshore pipeline cleaning and inspection exercise, known as "pigging," from January 20 to February 3, 2025, to align with stakeholder interests.
The four-week exercise will temporarily suspend reverse gas flow from Ghana’s Western Region to Tema and involve shutting down facilities in Tema, Lomé (Togo), and Cotonou (Benin). Additionally, subsea valves at key locations will be replaced to enhance safety.
This mandatory operation, conducted every five years, ensures the West African Gas Pipeline’s safety and efficiency. It will span the pipeline's offshore section from Badagry, Nigeria, to Takoradi, Ghana, complementing the completed onshore inspection phase in December 2024.
