We are laying the foundation for a new economy with One Million Coders programme - Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has launched the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP). He called it the start of a new economic era for Ghana.

“We are not merely launching a programme,” he told a large audience. “We are laying the foundation for a new economy.”

This initiative is part of the Reset Ghana Agenda. It aims to train one million Ghanaians in digital skills over four years. This effort addresses the digital skills gap affecting youth and national competitiveness.

President Mahama emphasized the importance of this programme. He said, “These are not just technical abilities; they are economic passports.” They will lead to decent jobs, entrepreneurship, and long-term socio-economic inclusion.

Mahama wants Ghana to be a leader in digital innovation. He cited examples from Estonia, the UK, Finland, and Japan. These countries have used coding education to drive economic change.

“These are not just anecdotes,” he stated. “These are blueprints—we will adapt them to Ghana.”
