Mark Badu Aboagye, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has expressed mixed reactions to the government’s 2025 VAT reform plans.
While acknowledging some positive steps, he criticized the uncertainty surrounding the timeline for implementation, warning that businesses will continue to struggle under the current 22% VAT rate.
He welcomed the removal of the E-Levy, calling it the "most nuisance tax" in Ghana’s history, and emphasized the need for urgent tax reform, stating that the current VAT structure is overly complicated and discourages compliance.
Despite recognizing some improvements in macroeconomic indicators, he remains skeptical about their accuracy. His comments highlight the business community’s frustration with tax burdens and the need for more decisive policy action.
