The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has defended its decision not to reduce transport fares, despite a slight drop in fuel prices, citing other rising operational costs.
Speaking on PM Express on March 18, Deputy PRO Samuel Amoah explained that factors such as spare parts, insurance, lubricants, and DVLA charges significantly impact fare adjustments. He noted that although fuel prices have slightly declined, they remain above levels that would justify a fare reduction.
Amoah stated that GPRTU uses a structured process, including a 10% threshold assessment, before adjusting fares. He emphasized that unless fuel prices drop to around ¢12 per litre and spare parts costs decrease, fares are unlikely to be reduced.
