The OR Foundation, a non-profit NGO, has denied claims about buying the Katamanto market. They also reject accusations of taking over secondhand clothing businesses.
On April 10, 2025, the Ghana Used Clothing Dealers Association protested. They claimed the NGO's actions threatened their livelihoods. The association believes OR Foundation aims to dismantle their industry.
The leadership of Kantamanto Market disagrees with these claims. They describe the association's statements as misleading and unrepresentative.
Dr. Joseph Obeng, President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), issued a 21-day ultimatum. He called for an investigation into OR Foundation’s statements against the group. He warned of a nationwide protest if no action is taken.
At a press conference in Accra, Lyz Ricketts clarified OR Foundation's position. She stated they have no plans to take over Katamanto market. “We are here to support the market,” she said.
Ricketts emphasized that they do not want a ban on secondhand clothing. Instead, they advocate for better quality clothing and improved infrastructure in the market.
