Deputy Finance Minister-designate Thomas Nyarko Ampem reiterated that the government will prioritize internal revenue generation over excessive borrowing.

During his parliamentary vetting on February 24, Ampem emphasized that Ghana will aggressively pursue revenue generation while constraining expenditure.

He noted that without curbing spending, fiscal targets cannot be met and highlighted that President Mahama’s recent reduction in the number of state ministers by about 24 is a signal of the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline.

This move, which has cut the number of state ministers to 60 from over 100 in the previous administration, is part of a broader strategy to ensure fiscal sustainability by reducing reliance on external loans and strengthening internal revenue mobilization for national development.
