Agriculture Minister-nominee Eric Opoku has unveiled plans to revamp Ghana’s poultry sector to address food inflation and boost production. Speaking during his vetting on January 20, he emphasized reducing the cost of poultry feed as a critical step to stabilize egg and poultry prices.

Opoku highlighted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto’s “Poultry Farm-to-Table Programme,” designed to bridge the gap between poultry demand and supply.

This initiative includes financial support for farmers and collaboration with the Poultry Farmers Association to expand operations and improve production efficiency.

Citing Ghana Statistical Service data, he linked rising food inflation—up from 23% to 27.8%—to escalating egg prices, underlining the need for investment in the sector. He also proposed enhancing existing programs with credit facilities and expanded veterinary services to ensure tangible and sustainable results.
