The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has assured commuters that transport fares will be reduced if fuel prices fall to around ¢12 per litre.
Speaking on PM Express on March 18, Deputy PRO Samuel Amoah explained that while fuel prices have slightly declined, other operational costs—such as spare parts, lubricants, and taxes—continue to impact fare adjustments.
Amoah stated that GPRTU follows a structured assessment process, including a 10% threshold review, before making fare changes. He noted that the last fare increase was based on fuel prices around ¢12 per litre, whereas current prices remain above ¢14.
He cautioned that high spare part costs could delay fare reductions despite the recent fuel price dip. However, he reaffirmed that if fuel prices drop to ¢12 per litre, GPRTU will reassess the situation and consider lowering fares.
