Dr. Ayine praised Hubtel as a great Ghanaian company. He acknowledged the founders' vision and divine guidance.
He emphasized the need to depoliticize business in Ghana. "We must support businesses to grow," he said. He noted there are no NDC or NPP businesses.
His call for unity in nurturing local talent was central to his speech. The anniversary marked 20 years since Hubtel's founding in 2005 by KNUST graduates.
Originally, Hubtel aimed to improve business-to-customer communication through bulk SMS. It has since evolved into a company aspiring to be Ghana’s first tech unicorn.
Minister of Communications, Sam George, echoed Dr. Ayine's sentiments about Hubtel's importance. He praised the company's leadership role in Ghana's digital growth.
"Hubtel is more than just a participant; it is a leader," he remarked. He highlighted Hubtel’s contributions to financial inclusion and e-commerce access.
George Opare-Addo, Minister for Youth Empowerment, noted Hubtel's impact on employment. "Hubtel has redefined the job market in recent years," he stated.
He stressed that digital innovation can tackle unemployment effectively. Hubtel creates new jobs that allow young people to leverage technology.
Opare-Addo applauded every young professional at Hubtel for their contributions. Their roles show how digital businesses can combat unemployment successfully.
Hubtel’s journey includes bold innovations and learning from setbacks. By 2023, it had processed nearly GHS 160 billion in transactions and served over 8,000 businesses.
The company supports 12 million customers with 932 delivery riders across eight cities. Its team has grown from three founders to 722 professionals.
Co-founder and CEO Alex Bram reflected on this milestone with pride. “This achievement shows our focus on innovation and community,” he said.
The anniversary event celebrated past successes while calling for future support for Ghanaian innovation without political bias.
