Former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has denied that the 10% betting tax was ever implemented, despite its announced repeal in the 2025 Budget.
He argued that the government was misleading Ghanaians by claiming to abolish a tax that was never collected. However, bettors on social media strongly disagreed, questioning where their deducted winnings had gone.
Dr. Amin Adam later clarified that the finance minister mistakenly referred to "Lottery Wins" as "Betting Tax."
Research by 3news, citing a Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) document, confirmed that the tax was enforced from April 2024, covering sports betting, casinos, and lottery winnings.
The debate now centers on whether the tax was remitted to GRA or retained by betting companies, raising concerns over transparency.
