Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has dismissed claims that the government plans to sell the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on February 20, he clarified that the government is not privatizing ECG but seeking a partnership to improve its billing and revenue collection systems.
Citing personal experience where ECG failed to collect his household bills for three months, Jinapor highlighted operational inefficiencies that need urgent reform.
He emphasized that the initiative is designed to enhance ECG’s financial sustainability and overall performance, not to sell the company.
The minister urged Ghanaians to disregard misinformation and support efforts aimed at strengthening ECG to ultimately improve service delivery across the country.
