Former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has refuted claims that the NPP administration wrongly imposed and later abolished a betting tax, clarifying that the government only implemented a tax on bet winnings, not lottery winnings.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express, he accused the current Finance Minister of misrepresenting the issue in Parliament by equating bet winnings tax to lottery winnings tax, which was never implemented under the NPP.
Dr. Amin Adam emphasized that his administration only enforced the tax on bet winnings, and Parliament later corrected the misinterpretation. He questioned why the Finance Minister’s initial statement lacked clarity, leading to public confusion.
His remarks come amid heated debate over NPP’s tax policies on gambling, as he seeks to clear misconceptions and affirm that the government acted within legal and policy guidelines.
