President John Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to re-establishing Ghana’s national airline, citing the failure of the previous administration’s attempt.
Speaking during his State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025, Mahama announced a fresh, transparent process to attract competent partners to launch a viable national carrier. He emphasized that an efficient airline would introduce competition and lower fares on monopoly-dominated routes.
Beyond the national airline, Mahama outlined plans to transform Ho Airport into an aviation hub with a pilot training academy and aircraft maintenance facility, aiming to boost employment and economic growth.
His broader transport agenda integrates road, rail, and water transport, including launching passenger rail services and modernizing the Western Railway Line through private sector investment.
