The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) has cautioned the government against introducing or increasing taxes in the 2025 budget. Speaking on PM Express, GNCCI CEO Mark Badu-Aboagye stated that the business community would oppose any attempts to impose new taxes following the scrapping of the electronic levy (e-levy) and betting tax.

“If the Minister of Finance or the government scraps the betting tax and the e-levy, but tries to introduce a different tax in the budget, we are going to resist it, I can assure you,” he declared.

Mr. Badu-Aboagye highlighted the chamber's willingness to collaborate with the government to enhance tax compliance among businesses, ensuring a more robust revenue base without burdening compliant taxpayers. “We will work with them to identify businesses that do not want to pay taxes,” he added.

The GNCCI CEO emphasized the importance of adding value to raw materials and reducing reliance on imports to strengthen the local economy. He urged the government to focus on supporting local businesses and industries to improve production capacity and protect the Ghana cedi.

“Let’s make a conscious effort to reduce imports and produce locally. This will help save the cedi. If we continue to import excessively, the cedi will keep depreciating,” he warned.
