Joe Jackson, CEO of Dalex Finance, raised concerns about the challenges the incoming Mahama administration may face in generating revenue for development if it follows through with its pledge to abolish several taxes.
Ahead of the 2024 elections, John Dramani Mahama promised to remove taxes such as the e-levy, COVID levy, a 10% levy on betting, the emissions levy, and import duties on industrial and agricultural vehicles and equipment.
Jackson questioned where the revenue would come from if these taxes were removed, emphasizing that the government would face significant difficulties in managing the economy. Despite these challenges, he noted that someone must step up to lead and address the country’s issues.
