With over 60 world leaders and global economic giants in attendance, the summit addressed issues such as economic growth, climate change, and emerging technologies.
A special session on Africa emphasized that adopting emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and digital economies is essential for the continent’s development.
Botswana's President, Duma Boko, stressed the importance of digital technology as "the language of young people" and vital for overcoming Africa’s challenges.
Wamkele Mene, General Secretary of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), underscored the significance of digitalization in Africa’s economy and announced the Africa Digital Trade Protocol, set to be adopted next month.
He emphasized the need for intra-Africa digital trade and payment interoperability to boost economic integration and job creation, especially for the continent's youthful population.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa also endorsed the digital economy, highlighting its potential to enhance trade and development. A digital African economy, driven by emerging technologies, is projected to contribute $1.5 trillion to Africa's GDP by 2030, bringing transformative changes across sectors like agriculture, government services, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and education, thereby accelerating sustainable growth on the continent.
