World Vision Ghana (WVG) has committed US$8 million to support farmers and vulnerable households affected by the 2024 drought. The relief package—comprising cash transfers, food supplies, and essential items—aims to assist over 324,000 people in the hardest-hit regions.

The drought has impacted over four million households, causing severe post-harvest losses of key crops like maize, millet, and beans. WVG will implement the relief program in 13 operational areas across the Northern, Upper West, Upper East, Western North, Volta, Oti, and Savannah Regions.

Samuel Gmalu, WVG’s Manager for Humanitarian, Emergency, and Relief Affairs, emphasized the need for a national disaster response strategy to address the vulnerabilities of farming communities to climate change. He noted WVG’s continued efforts in emergency relief, education, healthcare, and resilience-building.

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture in Tamale has called for a comprehensive national disaster policy to streamline response efforts, especially for women and children.
