YEA opens inclusive fashion hub in Kumasi to empower PWDs

The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has inaugurated the Make Fashion Inclusive Hub in Kumasi. This initiative aims to equip Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with fashion and dressmaking skills.

The project is a collaboration with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ). It seeks to train 100 PWDs in vocational skills for the fashion industry. The focus is on promoting inclusion, economic self-reliance, and sustainable employment.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Basintale highlighted the importance of empowering all segments of society. He stated, “This hub is not just a training centre; it is a beacon of opportunity.” He emphasized that disability does not mean inability.

Through this program, participants will gain industry-relevant skills. These skills will help them pursue entrepreneurship or meaningful employment.

The Make Fashion Inclusive Hub aligns with YEA’s commitment to inclusive development. It aims to create job opportunities for Ghana’s youth, including marginalized groups.

Representatives from GIZ, local government, and disability advocacy groups attended the event. They praised the hub as a transformative step for PWDs facing unemployment.

Beneficiaries will receive full support during their training. This includes mentorship, tools, and startup assistance for their own fashion enterprises after graduation.

The hub aims to serve as a model for future inclusive vocational training projects across Ghana.
