Dr. Joseph Yamin, the National Organizer of the NDC, has called on the Bank of Ghana to provide documentation regarding gold bars seized at Kotoka International Airport.
Yamin, who chairs the asset retrieval taskforce of the transition committee, criticized the central bank and the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) for attacking him instead of supporting the police with credible evidence.
On December 17, 2024, Yamin’s team intercepted a bullion van transporting 17 boxes of gold, allegedly headed for export to Dubai. The PMMC claimed the gold belonged to the Bank of Ghana under the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
Yamin challenged this, saying there was no supporting documentation or clear indication that the gold belonged to the central bank. He also alleged other gold consignments had left the country without proper documentation.
