Yamson hails cedi recovery as proof of Ghana’s economic turnaround

Dr. Ishmael Yamson, Chairman of the National Economic Dialogue Planning Committee, spoke about the Ghanaian cedi's recent rebound. He called it a strong sign of the government's commitment to economic change.

During a presentation at Jubilee House on June 4, he shared the committee’s final report with President John Dramani Mahama. Dr. Yamson noted that the cedi's recovery surprised many critics of the government’s “Resetting Ghana” agenda.

He acknowledged public doubts about whether this rebound is sustainable. Given Ghana's history of economic ups and downs, skepticism is understandable. However, he remains optimistic that current reforms will lead to lasting improvements.

Dr. Yamson believes that progress can create a stable macroeconomic environment for investors. He emphasized the need to address root causes of instability in the economy.

Key priorities include structural reforms in sectors like energy and cocoa. If done quickly and passionately, these reforms could lead to a prosperous Ghana.

The National Economic Dialogue’s final report provides a roadmap for resilience and inclusive growth. It supports the Mahama administration’s “Reset Agenda” amid various pressures both globally and domestically.
