Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has called on Starlink to establish a physical office in Accra as a condition for continuing its operations in Ghana.
Despite receiving regulatory approval, George expressed concerns over the company’s lack of local presence, arguing that a local office is necessary for better regulatory oversight and consumer protection.
He criticized the National Communications Authority (NCA) for not requiring Starlink to have a base in Ghana, noting the delays in addressing issues due to the company’s remote operations.
Starlink, which launched in Ghana in August 2024, provides high-speed satellite internet, aiming to serve rural areas with limited infrastructure.
George emphasized that accessibility is key for effective regulation and consumer satisfaction.
