10 illegal miners arrested in Boin Forest Reserve

Ten people have been arrested for illegal mining in the Boin Forest Reserve. This area is located in the Aowin Municipality of Ghana’s Western North Region.

The arrests were made through a joint operation. The Enchi Forest Division worked with military personnel to protect natural resources.

The suspects were caught near the border with Ivory Coast. This area is targeted by illegal miners due to its rich minerals and tough terrain.

Joe Appiah Frimpong, the Enchi Forest Division Manager, confirmed the arrests. He said the suspects have been handed over to police in Enchi for investigation and prosecution.

Frimpong noted that these arrests are part of a larger effort. Authorities aim to stop unauthorized mining that harms Ghana’s forest reserves.

Illegal mining threatens forests, water bodies, and farmland in Ghana. The Boin Forest Reserve has been especially vulnerable in recent years.

Mr. Frimpong warned those involved in illegal activities. He stated that the Enchi Forest Division will work with security agencies to protect Ghana’s forests.
