The High Court in Koforidua has convicted Akwatia MP Ernest Yaw Kumi for contempt after he defied an injunction barring him from being sworn into Parliament.
Despite the court order, Kumi took the oath of office, prompting Justice Senyo Amedahe to issue a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear for sentencing.
The court dismissed attempts by the Minority Caucus to justify his absence, emphasizing that Kumi had willfully disobeyed its authority.
With the warrant now in effect, law enforcement is expected to ensure his arrest.
This ruling underscores the judiciary’s stance on upholding the rule of law, as legal experts warn that public officials must respect court orders to avoid legal consequences.
