The Court of Appeal has ruled that investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas must remove his mask while testifying in the corruption trial of former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi.
This decision overturns an earlier High Court ruling that allowed Anas to testify while masked after first revealing his face to Nyantakyi in private chambers.
The appellate court emphasized that fair trial principles require witnesses to be physically identifiable, dismissing prosecution concerns about Anas’s safety due to a lack of evidence.
The ruling adds pressure on Anas, who has previously indicated he would not testify without his disguise.
Nyantakyi and co-accused Abdulai Alhassan remain on bail as their legal battle continues over allegations stemming from the explosive Number 12 corruption exposé.
