The Court of Appeal will deliver its judgment on June 5, 2025. This decision concerns Yaw Asante Agyekum, a convicted accomplice of criminal Ataa Ayi. Agyekum is appealing his 35-year sentence.
He was sentenced by an Accra high court in December 2002. So far, he has served 23 years of that sentence.
At the time of his conviction, Agyekum did not have a lawyer. He was charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
His lawyer, George Bernard Shaw, argues there is no evidence against him. He claims prosecutors only linked Agyekum to the crimes through phone numbers found on a mechanic's mobile phone.
Shaw believes this connection is unfair. He is pushing for the court to overturn the original ruling.
