Authorities at Osei Kyeretwie SHS using informants to fish out students possessing firearms

Authorities at Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School are investigating students with firearms.

They have arrested a second-year student for allegedly possessing a locally made gun.

Headmaster Michael Mensah stated that the approach must be discreet.

He mentioned that even girls reported suspicions about a male student.

"We didn't want to escalate the situation," he said.

A search for the student was called off when he stayed late outside.

Later, they conducted a dawn search in the dormitory but found nothing.

They then decided to check the classroom as another option.

"Luckily, we found the gun hidden under his desk," Mr. Mensah explained.

The student was not present during the search.

However, they caught him in the morning and took him to police headquarters.

This incident follows another where Suzy Pinamang from Adventist Senior High was shot by a classmate.

The 16-year-old OKESS student is now in police custody for unlawful possession of a pistol.

According to police, he claimed the weapon belonged to his stepfather.

Both he and his stepfather have been granted bail.

They must return on May 19 for further investigations.
