Baba Macho, 4 other suspects in murder of Kumasi MoMo vendor remanded

Five suspects have been charged with murdering a mobile money vendor in Kwadaso, Kumasi. They have been remanded into prison custody for two weeks.

The accused are Martin Amoah (alias Baba Macho), Charles Kwame Danso, Philip Fordjour, Samuel Adae Mensah, and Mavis Gyasi. They face three charges: murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and robbery.

Police prosecutors requested the court to remand the suspects for further investigations. Mavis Gyasi's lawyer applied for bail, but the Asokwa District Court denied it.

Judge Amy Bondzie Hanson remanded all five suspects and adjourned the case to April 23, 2025.

Kumasi has seen several robberies and murders of mobile money vendors recently. In this latest incident, a 24-year-old vendor known as 'Junior' was killed in his apartment at Kwadaso on March 20. He operated his MoMo business at the Kwadaso Onion Market and was found in a pool of blood.

The attackers reportedly stole an undisclosed amount of money. Earlier, on February 13, another vendor named Patricia Nimako was shot outside her shop at Krofrom. The armed robbers took GH₵10,000 and several mobile phones.

Patricia’s mother, Madam Elizabeth Fosuaa, attended the court hearing. She called for justice for her daughter.
