Burkinabe national arrested in Assin Fosu for human trafficking

The Central North Regional Police Command rescued seven foreign nationals on Sunday.

They were trafficked under false pretenses by Zongo Jeon-Baptiste, a 35-year-old from Burkina Faso.

The victims included two females and five males from Mali, Togo, La Côte d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso. They were found confined in a house at Pump-Side, Assin Fosu.

The police commander confirmed the arrest to the Ghana News Agency (GNA). The victims were lured with false job promises linked to QNET, an online marketing company.

However, they were held under suspicious conditions. The rescue followed a tip-off on June 1, 2025. This led to the arrest of eight individuals, including Zongo Jeon-Baptiste.

The victims have been released and will assist in further investigations. Meanwhile, the suspect is in police custody for human trafficking and fraud.

This incident highlights a broader pattern of human trafficking in Ghana. Victims from various West African countries are often lured with job offers and exploited for cybercrime activities.

Recently, similar rescues involved hundreds of victims and multiple arrests. The police command aims to dismantle these human trafficking networks in the area.
