Businessman denied bail in alleged fraudulent sale of land

The case was adjourned to December 11, 2024 The case was adjourned to December 11, 2024

The Accra Circuit Court 9 has denied bail to 64-year-old businessman Ibrahim Damtey Botchway, who faces fraud charges over disputed land transactions.

Presiding Judge Samuel Bright Acquah cited Botchway's ongoing trial in a separate GH¢800,000 fraud case as a factor in the decision.

Botchway pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and defrauding by false pretenses, with his co-accused absent from court.

The case was adjourned to December 11, 2024.

Court documents allege Botchway fraudulently granted conflicting rights to a 0.77-acre land at Odorkor to two parties. He is also accused of defrauding a businessman of GH¢500,000 in 2017, promising land at Ofankor but failing to deliver.

The prosecution claims Botchway misrepresented ownership and never refunded the money.
