A former community police officer in the Oti Region, Kwabena Atta Kuma, has been sentenced to 90 days in prison by the Dansoman Circuit Court for defrauding an electrical engineer of GH¢31,500 in a fake visa deal.

The court, presided over by Her Honour Halima El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, also ordered Kuma to refund the money within 12 months.

Kuma, who pleaded guilty on his first appearance, convinced the complainant, a Dubai-based Ghanaian, to pay for a supposed job opportunity in France.

After receiving the money, he admitted the scheme was a scam.

The victim, unable to retrieve his funds, spotted Kuma at Achimota on December 26, 2024, and had him arrested. GH¢7,000 has since been recovered, with further investigations ongoing.
