Court orders police to determine the gender of accused person

A Circuit Court in Accra, presided over by Judge Samuel Bright Acquah, has ordered the determination of the gender of Christabel Suphiar Sarkodie Tuffour, a 29-year-old German-based radiologist, before placing her in custody.

This follows an application by police prosecutor, Chief Inspector Ramata Asumah, to ensure Tuffour is placed in the appropriate male or female facility.

Tuffour is facing multiple fraud charges related to defrauding victims under the guise of facilitating visas for Germany and Canada, allegedly collecting large sums from 15 individuals between 2023 and 2024.

The accused has admitted to the offenses but claims to have handed the funds over to a co-conspirator, Ebenezer, who denies receiving any money.

The charges include defrauding individuals of amounts ranging from €2,500 to €10,000, with total losses running into tens of thousands of dollars, pounds, and cedis.
