Court refuses bail application for painter accused of stealing electrical cables

A court has denied bail for a painter accused of stealing electrical cables from a construction site in Accra. The accused, identified as Abubakar Mohammed, faces charges of unlawful entry and theft. According to the prosecution, Mohammed was caught red-handed with over 30 meters of electrical wiring valued at approximately GH¢1,500. The incident occurred when security personnel at the site noticed suspicious activity and apprehended him.

During the court proceedings, Mohammed's lawyer argued for bail on the grounds that he poses no flight risk and has strong community ties. However, the prosecutor countered that releasing him could jeopardize ongoing investigations, as he may attempt to flee or influence witnesses.

The presiding judge emphasized the seriousness of the charges and expressed concerns regarding potential interference with the case if bail were granted. As a result, Mohammed will remain in custody while awaiting his next court appearance. The case highlights ongoing challenges related to theft in construction zones and raises questions about security measures in such areas.
