Court refuses bail to man accused of aiding Ahmed Suale’s murder

The Accra High Court has denied bail to Daniel Koranteng Owusu, a businessman facing charges in connection with the 2019 murder of journalist Ahmed Hussein Suale.

Known also as Nana Amakye, Koranteng is accused of abetment and murder for allegedly providing photos of Suale to former MP Kennedy Agyapong, which were later aired on television before the journalist's death.

This marks the third time Koranteng’s bail application has been denied. Defense lawyer Nathaniel Egbor argued that his client posed no flight risk, had not interfered with investigations, and that the charges lack substance. He also claimed that Suale had already revealed his identity publicly.

However, the prosecution opposed bail, citing ongoing investigations and phone evidence placing Koranteng near the crime scene. Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie upheld the state’s argument and ordered that Koranteng remain in custody as the case proceeds. His next court appearance is pending as investigations continue.
