The Amasaman Circuit Court has sentenced a 21-year-old car thief to five years in prison.
Baba Hardi admitted to unlawfully entering Mr. Emmanuel Gideon Debrah's home. He stole a Toyota Corolla S valued at GHC140,000.00.
He was convicted based on his plea and sentenced accordingly.
Police Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah presented the case to the court. Justice Enid Marful-Sau presided over the hearing.
Mr. Debrah is an Information Technology Specialist living in Amasaman. Baba Hardi is unemployed and resides in Achiaman, near Amasaman.
On April 8, 2025, at about 5:30 AM, Mr. Debrah woke up to find his window mesh torn. His trousers containing car keys and ยข150.00 were also missing.
When he stepped outside, he discovered that his Toyota Corolla S was stolen. The car had been parked in front of his house.
Later that day, Mr. Debrah reported the theft to the Amasaman Police. They initiated a search for the stolen vehicle using a police wireless message.
Chief Inspector Awuah-Ansah stated that on the same day, police arrested Baba Hardi with the vehicle at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra. They found a pair of scissors on him as well.
Police said he attempted to sell the stolen car. Baba Hardi was handed over to the Amasaman police and admitted his crime when cautioned.
After investigations, he was charged with theft and brought before the court.
