Ex-convict held for alleged sodomy and death threats

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Abdul Razak, 55. He is an ex-convict accused of engaging in anal sex with a 13-year-old boy.

Razak, also known as Nii Atofotse, faces charges of threatening death and stealing. He has denied all allegations.

Police Chief Inspector Salifu Nashiru informed the court about the case. The complainant is a trader and guardian of the victim. The victim is a Junior High School student.

The court learned that Razak lives in Manhean. The complainant and the victim’s parents are neighbors in Accra. The victim often stayed at the complainant’s house due to his parents’ busy schedules.

On January 7, 2025, around 1:00 PM, the victim was sent to deliver a laptop and charger to his brother. The complainant received a call from the victim’s father during this time.

The father claimed that the victim had damaged someone’s car. He demanded GH¢500 and threatened to report it to police if not paid. The complainant was told to go to the police station for assistance.

The court heard that the complainant went to the police station but did not find the victim there. He returned home and searched for both the victim and caller but found no one.

Later, when the victim returned home, he revealed what happened. Razak approached him while he was returning from delivering items.

Razak asked if the charger was for a phone or laptop. After confirming it was for a laptop, Razak pulled out a knife and lured him into an unfinished building at Odumase.

He asked for the victim's parents' phone number and called his father demanding GH¢500. Razak threatened him with a knife, forcing him to say he damaged a car.

He then ordered the boy to perform oral sex on him. After becoming erect, Razak sat on a cement block and commanded the boy to sit on him.

When penetration failed during anal sex attempts, Razak made the boy bend over instead. He inserted his finger into the boy's anus before forcing himself inside for anal sex.

Afterward, Razak took the laptop charger from him and stole GH¢50 from his pockets. He also threatened that marks on his arm would reveal if he told anyone about this incident.

Later, Razak took the boy to a nearby store where he bought drinks before leaving. On March 5, 2025, Razak was seen near the boy's school.

The victim raised an alarm which led to Razak's arrest; authorities were promptly informed.

During investigations at Amasaman Divisional Domestic Violence Unit, it was revealed that Razak had committed similar crimes before in March 2017.

He had been released from Nsawam Prison in November 2024 after serving time for those offenses.

A Police medical report form was issued for hospital examination of the victim after this incident occurred.

On March 7, 2025, this medical report form was submitted by the complainant.

Following these events, Razak was cautioned and later arraigned after thorough investigations were completed.
