Four individuals, including a driver and his assistants, have been arrested for their involvement in a cocoa smuggling operation in Kwahu Nketepa, Afram Plains South District.

The National Anti-Cocoa Smuggling Task Force, with support from the Nketepa community watchdog committee, intercepted two Kia trucks carrying 400 bags of cocoa destined for Togo.

The suspects, caught offloading cocoa onto a canoe, attempted to flee but were apprehended after a swift chase.

Assembly Member Bosu Yaw urged government support for the watchdog committee to enhance surveillance.

Anthony Ablor, team lead of the committee, highlighted daily threats from armed smugglers, appealing for motorbikes and stronger collaboration with security agencies.

Over 20 arrests and thousands of cocoa bags have been seized in the Kwahu area since May 2024.
