The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has praised Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare for the recent arrest of an individual suspected to be involved in the murder of journalist Ahmed Suale. This commendation comes as a significant step towards justice for Suale, who was killed in January 2019, and reflects the GJA's ongoing commitment to advocating for the safety of journalists in Ghana.
In a statement, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour expressed gratitude for the police's efforts and emphasized that this development is crucial not only for Suale’s family but also for the broader media community. The association believes that swift action against those who threaten journalists will help foster a safer environment for reporting and free expression.
The GJA reiterated its call for continuous support from law enforcement to protect journalists and ensure accountability in cases of violence against them. The arrest signifies hope that justice will prevail, reinforcing the importance of safeguarding press freedom in Ghana.
